1 DOLLAR 11 SEN

Sally baru berumur delapan tahun ketika dia mendengar ibu dan ayahnya

sedang berbicara mengenai adik lelakinya, Georgi. Ia sedang menderita

sakit yang parah dan mereka telah melakukan apapun yang bisa mereka

lakukan untuk menyelamatkan jiwanya. Hanya operasi yang sangat mahal

yang sekarang bisa menyelamatkan jiwa Georgi… tapi mereka tidak

punya biaya untuk itu.

Sally mendengar ayahnya berbisik, “Hanya keajaiban yang bisa

menyelamatkannya sekarang.”

Sally pergi ke tempat tidur dan mengambil celengan dari tempat

persembunyiannya. Lalu dikeluarkannya semua isi celengan tersebut ke

lantai dan menghitung secara cermat…tiga kali. Nilainya harus benar-

benar tepat.

Dengan membawa uang tersebut, Sally menyelinap keluar dan pergi ke

toko obat di sudut jalan. Ia menunggu dengan sabar sampai sang

apoteker memberi perhatian… tapi dia terlalu sibuk dengan orang

lain untuk diganggu oleh seorang anak berusia delapan tahun. Sally

berusaha menarik perhatian dengan menggoyang-goyangkan kakinya, tapi

gagal.

Akhirnya dia mengambil uang koin dan melemparkannya ke kaca etalase.

Berhasil !

“Apa yang kamu perlukan ?” tanya apoteker tersebut dengan suara

marah. “Saya sedang berbicara dengan saudara saya.”

“Tapi, saya ingin berbicara kepadamu mengenai adik saya,” Sally

menjawab dengan nada yang sama. “Dia sakit…dan saya ingin membeli

keajaiban.”

“Apa yang kamu katakan ?,” tanya sang apoteker.

“Ayah saya mengatakan hanya keajaiban yang bisa menyelamatkan jiwanya

sekarang… jadi berapa harga keajaiban itu ?”

“Kami tidak menjual keajaiban, adik kecil. Saya tidak bisa

menolongmu.”

“Dengar, saya mempunyai uang untuk membelinya. Katakan saja berapa

harganya.”

Seorang pria berpakaian rapi berhenti dan bertanya, “Keajaiban jenis

apa yang dibutuhkan oleh adikmu?”

“Saya tidak tahu,” jawab Sally. Air mata mulai menetes

dipipinya. “Saya hanya tahu dia sakit parah dan mama mengatakan bahwa

ia membutuhkan operasi. Tapi kedua orang tua saya tidak mampu

membayarnya… tapi saya juga mempunyai uang.”

“Berapa uang yang kamu punya ?” tanya pria itu lagi.

“Satu dollar dan sebelas sen,” jawab Sally dengan bangga. “dan itulah

seluruh uang yang saya miliki di dunia ini.”

“Wah, kebetulan sekali,” kata pria itu sambil tersenyum. “Satu dollar

dan sebelas sen… harga yang tepat untuk membeli keajaiban yang

dapat menolong adikmu”. Dia Mengambil uang tersebut dan kemudian

memegang tangan Sally sambil berkata : “Bawalah saya kepada adikmu.

Saya ingin bertemu dengannya dan juga orang tuamu.”

Pria itu adalah Dr. Carlton Armstrong, seorang ahli bedah

terkenal…. Operasi dilakukannya tanpa biaya dan membutuhkan waktu

yang tidak lama sebelum Georgi dapat kembali ke rumah dalam keadaan

sehat.

Kedua orang tuanya sangat bahagia mendapatkan keajaiban

tersebut. “Operasi itu,” bisik ibunya, “adalah seperti keajaiban.

Saya tidak dapat membayangkan berapa harganya”.

Sally tersenyum. Dia tahu secara pasti berapa harga keajaiban

tersebut…satu dollar dan sebelas sen… ditambah dengan keyakinan.
